Childhood Experience
It Will Soon Be Moon Time
★★★ Mama is a Moon
Once upon a time, when the moon still lived on earth as a human — ÒṢÙPÁ Alè. Who wants to know the tale? We all chorused: “Yay!” 😁😁
“We believed Òṣùpá Alẹ́ to be our mother, the mother of all mankind, the living mother of all beings. But she was betrayed by the other gods who thought that Òṣùpá Alẹ́ wanted to become more superior than they. They planned to kill her, but they never knew that Òṣùpá Alẹ́ is a mother and a goddess of eternity and immortality.”
Before we continue, can we learn a new song? “Well, I love to sing, I don’t know about the others sha,” I said anxiously, hoping to understand why the moon lives in the sky and how she was sent away from the earth.
“Bísọ́lá, Bísọ́lá, wake up from your slumber, Mama wants to teach us a song!” Kẹ́hìndé shouted from behind, and we all laughed so hard.
A night with the moon
A n sere Òṣùpá
A night with Màmá
A n gbọ itan àtijọ
We sang the song and kept listening to Mama. The moon went to her hiding when she heard the song — I guessed she was shy because her story was told to us by Mama.
“Farmers, kings, queens, hunters, and everyone loved the Moon. We believed her to be the source of life and fertility until a time when the gods came together and decided they didn’t want her as their mother anymore.”
“Ahn Ahn, why is that? The cruel world of humanity!” Táiwò spoke indignantly. “It’s pure jealousy. You guys don’t always want to have a lady as your boss,” Móyẹni said. “Why is that, Mama? Why should the gods do that?” I asked almost in consternation.
“Well, the gods did that because the Moon was too good and great, and their relevance went unnoticed by everyone. They sought importance but were mean, cruel, and wicked. They whispered, conspired, and told lies to kings and everyone in the world that Òṣùpá Alẹ́ is not the one who blesses the people nor brings fertility. It’s all a lie.”
“Some people believed it to be true, but how can a good mother suddenly turn evil? When she was alleged to kill 'Láwálé, the son of the great Àyàn of the village of Irésọbẹ̀. “You had to wake him up! Were you not the one who raised the dead during the time of our fathers? Were you not the one who made Ọba Alákìjé II of Àkìjé a king? What then can stop you from raising 'Láwálé if not that you had killed him?”
The kings sat and thought deeply: why would they send away a mother who had been there since ages past? Why should their generation banish Òṣùpá Alẹ́, who had existed before the Flood of Noah and would still exist until the salvation of the Jews? The kings couldn’t refuse the voice of the gods, since the gods had the final say over the earth. Yet it was an abomination to banish the mother of all living.
Out of sheer love, the moon went up into the sky to show off her powers in an expression of love — shining at night to chase demons away from her children and hiding when the wicked were tormented by demons!
We are about to journey into the unknown where the Moon becomes both good and evil. #adventure_into_the_unknown Mama is the moon… coming soon. How Mama is the moon — in the next episode. 😊
